Rules & Scoring

🕹️ How to Play

  1. Decode your badge cipher to reveal your creature.
  2. Find your match — another participant whose badge phrase completes yours.
  3. Collect flamingo items hidden throughout the venue.
  4. Complete mini-challenges and riddles for extra points.
  5. Take photos as proof and show them at the reg desk for scoring.
  6. Work together and meet people! Collaboration earns bonus points.
  7. You may collect up to 2 of any single item type — extras don’t count.
  8. Some items may actually be part of your prize!
  9. The hunt runs all day Saturday; scores must be submitted before closing remarks.

Badge & Cipher Challenges

  • Decode your badge cipher → +5
  • Find your matching badge partner → +10
  • Legendary match (Eclipsera) → +15
  • Correctly identify cipher type → +5

Flamingo Artifacts (max 2 per type)

  • Tiny flamingo (mini plastic) → +10 each
  • Flamingo plushie → +20 each
  • Rubber flamingo (duck-style) → +10 each
  • Flamingo USB drive → +10 each
    • Decoded +5
  • ESP32 Node (Signal Relay) → +10 each
  • Find an item from BSidesChicago of the past → +10 each
  • Flamingo keychain → +10 each
  • Flamingo glasses (photo of you wearing them) → +10 each
  • Flamingo stamp (sponsor tables) → +5 each, max 25 total
  • Not a Flamingo stamp → +10
  • Fake flamingo” → +5
  • Flamingo hidden in slides (photo proof) → +2 each, +5 if animated
  • Sasha trapped in the forbidden zone → +50
  • Sasha says “Ouch!!” → +5 each, max 25 total
  • Find Clippy’s cousin → +10 each
  • Find a naked Titan → +25

Mythic Relics & Secret Missions

  • Flamingo Assassin (rare figure) → +50 each
    • Some represent legendary warriors of the Uprising.
    • Each has a unique name and code — bring it to Reg for verification.
  • Node Riddle Solved (ESP32 or QR) → +15

Creative & Social Challenges

  • Selfie with Sasha → +10 (without asking Kat)
  • Join a new village (CTF, Lockpick, Career, etc.) → +5
  • Make or share a flamingo pun → +3
  • Find a fake sasha badge → +15
  • Group photo of 5+ participants (“Mini-Flock”) → +10
  • Complete a full set (one of at least 5 unique artifacts) → +50
  • Make and wear a tinfoil hat → +10
  • Ask a legitimate question after a talk, but SING it (must be recorded) → +15
  • Most Creative photo(s) a-ring-around-Sasha! → +10

Bonus & Spirit Points – These must be judge by Flock Crew

  • Help another participant solve a cipher → +5
  • Volunteer kindness spotted → +5
  • Exceptional creativity or flair → +10
  • Entire team completes all core categories → +25
  • Most Flamingo Energy Award → +50
  • Most creative Flamingo Dance → +30

Quick Notes

  • Photos or items must be shown to Reg for validation.
  • QR-linked pages and riddles count as part of the hunt.
  • You can work solo or as a team (max 4 per team).
  • Don’t remove signage, unplug gear, or disturb sessions.
  • Remember: The Flamingo Assassins walk among us.
    If you find one, guard it well — and don’t let Sasha see you gloat.
